The Round Table

"The Round table
“The Round Table” that’s what I like to call it.  This table has a purpose. It’s not to get you to sit and spend more money in our store. You don’t have to buy a thing to have a seat at “The Round Table”.   It’s the gathering place. A place where you can come sit awhile, have a drink, eat a few Cajun peanuts or some popcorn and have great conversations, a place that we stay connected with current friends, a place we reconnect with old friends and a place we meet new friends.
At The Round Table everyone is welcome.  We can all talk about current events and still leave the table friends.  We can discuss the current farm market prices whether it be grain or livestock. We can share any problems we are having and get advice from those that have shared experiences. We discuss the latest truck or piece of equipment we’ve been working on.  We share hunting stories and share tall tales about the one that got away.   We share about our families, kids and grandkids. We talk about days gone by.
The Round Table keeps us connected. Even if it’s a busy time of year for everyone there is still time to have a seat at The Round Table and unwind, have a good conversation and maybe even have a beer.
Everyone should have a “Round Table” “Gathering place” (call it whatever you want) that is a place to  connect with friends. Whether it be your dining room/kitchen table or your patio table or maybe you don’t have a table at all but you have an awesome front porch with mismatched chairs. Any place will do.   We all need to stay connected and know that there is a place that you can go and not have to be in a hurry. Some place we can go to just relax a minute or two before we have to get back at it.
Life is way to short to not take time to have a seat at "The Round Table"

Dakota

It saddens me deeply to report we lost our beloved Dakota this week. Dakota was our trusty sidekick that had a mind of her own. She was extremely smart and did things on her own time. Time to go inside in the evenings, no not Dakota she went and laid down outside until we got in the house and got settled then she decided she wanted in. And food, Oh my goodness, she loved food! You never wanted to be around her if you had food because she would take it right off your plate or right out of your hand!
Dakota was the inspiration for the "Wolf Creek Farm" People would come out just to see her I think. Because of her size she did scare people sometimes until they got to know her and knew she was just a big lovable bear. But we did try to keep her in the kennel during store hours because she loved to chase people out the drive. (something she learned from her sidekick Sammie).
When Dakota was about 8 months old she started stumbling around and couldn't jump on the couch (yes we let our fur babies on our furniture) and she just wasn't acting like a normal 8 month old pup running and playing. So we took her to the vet and to our surprise she had Lyme Disease. I had never once seen a tick on Dakota. But she as you can see she did have a lot of fur and it was thick. She was treated with antibiotics and seem to get better. But it wasn't long before we noticed the lasting effects of the Lyme Disease. Dakota had hip dysplasia and arthritis. She was in pain most of the time. You could tell by the way she walked sometimes that her hips were hurting her bad. Dakota was a big dog but she had a hard time gaining weight in her back end, no matter what or how much we fed her,  due to the hip dysplasia and arthritis. She looked so big because she used her front legs and chest to basically carry herself around.
When Dakota was about 4 years old she tore her ACL and had to have surgery to fix it. This did not help with the dysplasia and arthritis issues. Dakota had to have pain medication most days especially when it was rainy and cold.  She would lay in the snow/ice to help with the pain but she didn't understand that it made the pain worse later. Sometimes it was painful to watch her get up because she struggled so much, but other times she would run with the other dogs and you couldn't even tell she had anything wrong.
Dakota was only 8 1/2 years old, even though she was a big dog she should have had several years left. I truly believe that the lasting effect of the Lyme Disease contributed to her passing. So keep in mind this tick season to watch your pets closely and use preventatives if you can. Lyme Disease is serious and your pets can get it.
Dakota will be missed. She loved everyone and everyone loved her.
RIP my sweet, lovable friend.
I hope God lets you greet me at the Pearly Gates one day.

IMAGINE

Imagine….
Imagine, you build a house, you build barns, you plant gardens, and you start a family.  Your children have children, and they all live with you on the land you worked hard for, in the house you build with your own hands, they eat from the gardens you planted and tended to, they eat meat from the animals you raised and cared for. And all you ask for is love and respect. Maybe a little help here and there, because, I mean, they are living with you, they do eat all your food. And maybe just obey a few rules, because you are the dad and you do know what’s best for them. You don’t want them to do things that might cause them to hurt themselves, you try to teach them all the things they need to know to live.

Imagine the love and joy in your heart.

Imagine, one day a neighbor comes along and tells your children that they shouldn’t have to work to help you, they can do whatever they want to do because it’s their right. And why shouldn’t they have to love and respect you, it’s your job to take care of them. So, they stop helping you around the house, and in the fields and in the gardens.
Imagine the sadness in your heart.

Imagine, one day they invite that neighbor to come live with you. And he starts whispering other things in their ears. Then your neighbor tells them that those rules you laid out really aren’t rules but suggestions and really what’s the harm in disobeying a tiny little rule. And
all of the sudden your children and grandchildren are lying to you and stealing from one another, they are fighting and killing each other, and your sons are raping their daughters.

Imagine the sadness in your heart.

Imagine, your neighbor is whispering to some of them that you don’t even exist, that you didn’t build that house or those barns, you didn’t plant those gardens. He tells them that they just came to be there. So, the ones that he told this to stopped talking to you, when they passed you in the hall, they didn’t even see you there.

Imagine the sadness in your heart.

Imagine, you have one son that is the apple of your eye, he sticks with you and helps you, and you sit and talk for hours. He’s the doctor of the family, he helps them when they are hurt, he loves them all as much as you do and does his very best to bring them all together.  This son goes to the other children and tries to tell them that you just want what’s best for them and you love them and look at all the things you’ve done for them. But they turn on him and they kill him.

Imagine the sadness in your heart.

Imagine, they put you in a room in the far corner of the house. Some of them will come knock on your door and sit with you and talk to you ask you for your forgiveness and you welcome them with open arms but when they leave, they go back to the ways of the world.   Others will come knock on your door when they need something beg and plead for you to help them and you do and they go back to living a life of “freedom from rules” Still others come crashing into your room without knocking and start ridiculing you and mocking you and you sit there and let them do it because really what can you do, they are your children, and you love them.  Still others don’t even know you are there.
Imagine they just stop coming by at all.

Imagine the sadness in your heart.

But wait...   IMAGINE IT ANONTHER WAY

Imagine...
Your father built a house, he built barns, he planted gardens and he started a family. and that family grew to a large family, and the entire family lived on the land and in the house that your father built. You all ate from the gardens and from the livestock your father tended to. and your father didn't ask for much. he just asked for a little help and for you to follow just a few rules.

Imagine the love you felt in your heart.

Imagine one day someone whispers in your ear that you shouldn’t have to help around the house, and you shouldn’t have to help in the garden. and you shouldn’t have listening to what your father was telling you, and you stopped doing the things he taught you.

Imagine seeing the sadness in your father's heart.

Imagine you helped destroy the house that your father build and the barns were in ruins and the gardens didn't grow anymore. and there was lying in your family and murder in your family and adultery in your family.

Imagine SEEING the sadness in your father's heart.

Imagine you have your father locked in a room and you only visit when you want or need something. And your angry at him because he has let all these bad things happen you, and you yell at him and you curse him.

Imagine SEEING the sadness in his heart.

Imagine one day being at your lowest point and you have such despair and you have nowhere to go, you have nothing. You call out for your father, “Father forgive me!” Imagine him coming to you and wrapping his loving arms around you and comforting you and saying “I forgive you”

Imagine seeing the love and joy in his heart!

Isaiah 55:7 7Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

AS I WAS READING  MY DEVOTIONS THIS MORNING GOD PUT IT ON MY HEART TO WRITE THIS. WE ARE CALLED TO LIVE IN HOLINESS, WHEN WE REJECT GOD WE SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR ACTIONS. BUT GOD PROVIDES A WAY FOR US TO BE RESTORED.
PRAISE GOD!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! DREAM BIG IN 2021

Well there's another year in the books. And what a year it has been! I could sit here and tell you about all the bad that came from this year, but you already know what's going on in the world you don't need me to summarize it for you.
And I'm not going to talk about New Years resolutions, because we all know how those go.  Tell me if I'm right on this. This is how "Resolutions" go, we make a list of "things I'm going to or not going to do this next year", and then come February and we start to fall back into our old habits not even realizing it and before you know it those resolutions are forgotten.
What if instead of "resolution" we have DREAMS! Dreams are so much better because they don't limit you. They take you places!   I feel like if we have dreams we take them more serious.  We set goals, we work harder, we focus on them more. I think people like to focus on "resolutions" rather than "Dreams" because dreams are more scary.  If you fall short on your resolution it's really no big deal to most people, because in reality what does it matter if you didn't lose that extra 30 pounds, you can live with yourself. And so what if you didn't slow you spending to save for that new whatever you wanted, you didn't really need it anyway.  But if you fall short on your dream then your dream is crushed and what do you have to dream about then.    And that is why is scares you! It's easier to just keep those dreams to yourself think "one day I will make my dream come true." or "if God wanted that dream for me He would make it happen" But if you never start planning to make that dream come true because your scared, how will it become a reality? Plus God wants you to put in the effort as well.
I've had lots of dreams over the years. Some of them didn't turn out quite like I thought they would (because I believe they were not part of Gods plan for me) and some of them ended up bigger than I could have ever imagined.  Some dreams changed through out the coarse of my life. Some dreams are my husbands dreams and I fall in love with them and make them my dream as well. I continue to dream. I dream bigger every time. The dreams get scarier and harder, but I will continue to dream and set goals that scare me and excite me at the same time because I have big dreams. Most of them involve the farm. I will share some of those dreams with you throughout the year. So stay tuned ;)
So my advise to you for this coming year is, don't have New Years Resolutions, DREAM! And DREAM BIG! First and foremost PRAY about your dream, then, set goals, stay focused, plan, work hard at them and BELIEVE! Believe in your dream, believe in your self and believe that God has a hand in it. Because if it is part of His plan for your life it will be bigger than anything you ever imagined.

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this Psalm 37:4-5

MERRY CHRISTMAS

A few years ago I read a story about if you give your animals fresh bedding in the barn on Christmas eve they will talk to each other at midnight. I loved that story so much that now on Christmas eve I make my husband go out and we put fresh bedding down for all the animals. Bless my husbands heart he humors me and no matter how late it is we go out and bed the sheep, donkey, cow, rabbit, chickens and now ponies. As we head back to the house I smile to myself and picture all the animals getting out of there stalls and gathering around to tell the story of that night long ago when the Christ Jesus was born. In my mind, I picture my old girl Haggie (she's my oldest ewe) telling all her barn mates to gather round as she spins her tale, telling how her family goes way back and her ancestors were there on that glorious night when the Angel's came to the shepherd's in field and this is how the story goes:
 Luke 2
New International Version
The Birth of Jesus

2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

And when Haggie is finished with her story they all go back to their fresh beds and the barn returns to normal.
So that is how I picture the barn on Christmas Eve. In my mind I like to think that even the animals know how special Jesus is and want to spread the news to all who will listen.
So as you read this I hope you to will know how special this time of year is and that it's not all about the gifts that we get or give, but it is about the One Gift we received and that is Christ.  I hope to that you too will want to spread the news to all who will listen.
From our Family to yours we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas! And may the new year bring you great blessings.

Here at Wolf Creek Farm we raise Katahdin sheep.  The Katahdin sheds its winter coat, and so does not have to be sheared. Katahdin are hardy, adaptable, low maintenance sheep that produce superior lamb crops and lean, meaty carcasses.
